"For every kid competing, there was a five minutes slot for the kids to be in front of the judges prior to the competition starting. The kids were able to select any part of their variation or contemporary solo and get feedback/corrections prior.
Corrections in the classes were different and seemed to be in line with a typical Ballet class."

"Cal State LA"
Venue description
"Nice theater, lobby area"
"The theater itself was lovely, the lobby was spacious, bathrooms were clean. When we attended, there was truly just not a lot around the campus so everything felt like a decent drive. There was also nothing open on campus, so to get food you had to leave."
Stage description
"Marley, sufficient room for jumping pass, not raked"
"Marley floor. Beautiful full-size stage. Even the older boys did not have to modify their performance due to the size."
Off-stage warm-up space
"There were studios open to warm up in"
"There were side classrooms that were utilized. My kids had no complaints."
Dressing rooms
"Multiple dressing room areas, the one we picked had a long row of individual mirror areas for getting ready, sufficient space - parents were allowed in dressing rooms / backstage for independent dancers"
"My son use the bathroom to change. It was actually fine as the bathrooms were very clean and spacious."
Onstage warm-up
"The stage was crowded but she was able to practice a bit. We don't have a lot to compare to."
"Both of my kids said it felt like every other Ballet competition. Just a few minutes to feel the stage and they were ready to go. Nothing crazy to report."
Other schedule comments
"Awards were a bit long"
"The schedule went according to plan"
Staff communication
"Good - I don't recall any changes"
"There were no changes. However, I will say the communication is fantastic with this competition."

"Ballet Scout was there doing a Q&A."
Why (not) helpful
"I just don't remember it all that well. They were very nice but the students didn't have a lot of questions."
"I was neutral. The people from Ballet Scout were very friendly and engaged with every question that was asked. At the time I just didn’t have any questions."

Awards & Scholarships
Awards ceremony
"It was a bit long. I did like that some of the choreographers were recognized."
"Awards were incredibly long. This was mostly due to the fact that there is two divisions that they separate by how many hours per week the kid trains. Also, everyone got an award so that made it even longer."

Final Comments
Best aspect
"Performing a variation and getting nice feedback
Choreographing and performing contemporary - everything was her vision for the performance"
"My kids enjoyed the stage and the owner/operator Matthew was incredibly warm, inviting, and helpful. My kids enjoy all ballet competitions and are not phased if one feels more intense than another. However for a kids first ballet competition, or if they don’t thrive in the YAGP environment, I would highly recommend this one."
Worst aspect
"Not a lot of food options around and lots of down time"
"The multiple levels."
Competition culture
"I thought they were very welcoming for a first time independent dancer"
"Very welcoming and inclusive. Regardless of ability, kids were polite."
Attendee culture
"People generally seemed friendly - I wasn't interacting a lot with others"
"Quiet and respectful."
Suggested changes
"More food options like food trucks or something"
"Just get rid of the multiple levels and make it one competition. And not everyone needs an award. They can just call it like it is."

Anything else?
"I don't have enough to compare to. It may depends on what the goals are for competing."
"Give it a shot and see if it’s for you. We attended last year and will be attending the same LA regional again. If your kid loves to perform, it’s a great competition."
