The setting in Florence was amazing. The dance studios were in a beautiful historic building in centre of Florence, Italy. The overall experience going as a family was fun. My daughter made good friends and there was a nice atmosphere amongst the dancers. I loved that there were dancers from so many different parts of the world, it was a great cultural experience.
Teachers didn't speak English and there was no translator so consequently there was not much feedback to students, it wasn't clear why some students were showcased and others not. A lot of time was spent on rehearsals at the end of the week which meant that there was a lot of sitting around for those who were not performing much in the show. Maybe if a dancer was attending for 2-3 weeks this could be different.
Some air conditioning in the studios would have been nice (It was above 80 degrees in the studio). An interpreter might have been helpful to improve communication between teachers and students.
The culture was very much what you might expect from a Russian Intensive.
A great cultural experience!
