Best aspect:

BBSI brings together ballet professionals from top ballet schools across the country. The teachers share information about their professional ballet experience and their ballet school’s program and give the students one on one time to discuss joining their school if selected. My son was able to learn from a teacher who ended up recruiting him. It was great to be able to try out the main teacher of the men’s program of the school before joining the school. The teacher who represented the school wasn’t merely a name to attract students but an actual teacher of the students. My son got more individual attention in one week from the faculty here than he has ever gotten at his previous school’s 5 week summer intensive. The camaraderie of the students was amazing! Only there for a week and my son came home with so many new friends! The Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, CA, is gorgeous and had super nice dance studios.

Suggested changes to program:

I wouldn’t change a thing! Excellent program and it fits in nicely at the end of the summer after the 5 week intensives are finished.

Culture of program:

Supportive! These teachers are there to teach and also to recruit but they really want what is best for your student. They discuss the pros and cons of their program with your student in mind. It is VERY student success centered. This intensive is organized and runs like a well oiled machine! Hands down the best and easiest SI to navigate. You know the rules and expectations and are able to have fun and work hard without worrying you’ll miss something.

Other comments:

BBSI gave my son the chance to experience teachers from some of the country’s top ballet programs. He learned so much in only one week and he was the happiest I have seen him in years. I didn’t realize how unhappy my son was at his previous studio until I saw how happy he was at BBSI. He came out of class every day sweaty, tired and smiling!!! Every. Day. SMILING!!! They’ve built something incredible with BBSI and it ultimately helped my son change ballet programs. My son is now thriving at his new school. Thank you, BBSI!!!
