Best aspect

  • "Variety of styles offered - McGregor, Forsyth, Bournonville, among others."
  • "The pace of morning class was fast with exercises given, maybe marked for centre work, and dancers expected to pick it up quickly. The quantity of choreography was challenging but stretched my dancer in a good way (4 different styles every day, multiple solos per style, completely different choreography for each style in the second week). The calibre of the faculty was outstanding. Parent viewing was available all day Friday and for all Saturday classes on both weeks. The dancers stay in the one studio and the teachers rotate, which meant class changes were efficient and every class started and finished on time. My dancer loved the Bournonville."
  • "The contemporary class was great. Teacher was very engaging and creative."

Least liked about program

  • "Nothing"
  • "Not all studios were air-conditioned and France was having a heat wave."
  • "No specific feedback was given"

Suggested changes to program

  • "Nothing, it was excellent."
  • "It would be great to have a lunch option for non-boarding students because there is nowhere to buy lunch near the studios and supermarkets are closed when many people arrive in Marseille on Sunday afternoon. Maybe they could pre-purchase lunch tickets as part of the registration process."
  • "More feedback to the dancer"

Culture of program

  • "Very positive"
  • "Warm, encouraging, challenging and a great choice if you love working hard! It was telling that there were past ESB students, some even professional dancers, teaching and helping the whole thing run smoothly. Some of this year's graduates came in for a day or so to take class and see their teachers one more time before going to their first jobs. The teachers were very warm, attentive and welcoming to parents. People seemed to know each other and were sad to say goodbye at the end. There was a sense of ESB being like a caring ballet 'family'."
  • "Nice, professionally run program with high level of dancers.."

Other comments

  • "The course was superb, a high standard, my daughter felt challenged, with a fantastic range of styles and teachers."
  • "My dancer attended three summer schools in Europe this year. She tells everyone ESB was by far the best because of the pace and level of challenge."
