Housing comment

  • Some students had one roommate, others had no roommate, they had a single room but were in a suite with another single. Housed at Spruce Hall, a newer dorm, see online for pics.

Best aspect

  • Full time professors at IU/Jacobs’s taught the classes. Good window in the college program.
  • the amount of time spent dancing, many hours each day without a lot of downtime
  • It was an amazing experience to get a feel for what college ballet program will be like and to interact with the professors. They encourage communication and want to know what kids are interested in attending. We felt it was the beginning of a relationship.
  • Facilities and housing were nice. Training was intense.

Least liked about program

  • Wish it was longer. Though I also like it that it is short and at beginning of summer so it can be combined with other SIs. They had 2 one week programs.
  • my daughter didn't feel she got a lot of personal correction, however, still took a lot away from the group instruction
  • The food situation was not ideal. Would have been helpful to have more vegetarian/vegan options, and more than PBJ for those who do not eat meat at lunch. Will definitely send more food with dancer next time.
  • Favoritism of certain students by some of the teachers

Suggested changes to program

  • Be less expensive
  • add more weeks as an option
  • Meals

Culture of program

  • Friendly. Not crazy Balanchine.
  • supportive, welcoming, educational, demanding (in a good way)
  • Healthy, supportive, encouraging. Very body positive. They highlighted tall dancers during pas demonstration.

Other comments

  • Seems like it is a gem.
  • loved the level of involvement of the RA's with the dancers
