This intensive is similar to a "company life" style intensive. All students of all genders take a "company" style class each morning from 9am to 10:30am, and then spend until 5:30pm learning original choreography created on the class. This summer it was three pieces - a jazzy Balanchine, a more classical, and a romantic pas de deux. Nine days to rehearse and then perform in the onsite black box theater, in costumes! A great glimpse into the reality of company life!
This isn't a dislike, but rather a heads up. With an age range of approximately 15-20 years old, older and more seasoned dancers received more casting, including a few solos, while the other end of the spectrum received far less stage time in corp roles. Nevertheless, everyone was cast, rehearsed a lot, and received significant stage time.
Nothing really comes to mind. Moving to a structure where all dancers receive more equal casting would likely require splitting into two groups, and would dilute the value of "this is what life is like in a company."
Cordial but cliquey for new/younger dancers.
Excellent experience. Highly recommend.
