Housing comment

  • Breakfast not included in meal plan. Also no food provided at all on Sundays. Residential Housing are Suites with three rooms and each room sleeps up to four. There weren’t a lot of activities planned and Dancers were only allowed to go out in a very limited perimeter.
  • 4girls to a room, two rooms to a suite with 2 bathrooms.

General Comments

Overall recommendation

Best aspect

  • The strong Balanchine emphasis.
  • ballet training; stretch and strength
  • Residential Housing had Suites, Proximity of Housing to Studios (right across the street)
  • My dancer thought the classes were challenging and rewarding. Even though there are only 3 classes per day, she felt challenged.

Least liked about program

  • In some of the classes my daughter didn't feel like she got her share of individual attention.
  • no hardcopy of schedule provided
  • Short days, no Saturday Classes, Food, Attention seemed to be given more to year round Students
  • Down time unstructured which caused a lot of social drama and bullying type behavior.

Suggested changes to program

  • Maybe add a class with a different style of dance like contemporary. Add some exposure to the company or its history and culture - maybe a performance video viewing activity after class
  • Quick tour of the building so it's easier to find your way around.
  • Better Food quality/choices, more Classes or at least a Saturday Class. Some fun excursions other than a mall or trip would be great. Also more weekday activities in dorms would be good. The Kids have lots of down time there and it can get a bit boring.
  • Structuring down time.

Culture of program

  • It felt small, intimate, and helpful.
  • Detailed and disciplined, positive
  • Fairly strict, Teachers weren’t overly approachable and seemed to give their attention more to year round Students
  • Culture was difficult to pinpoint. My dancers class experience was very different than the dorm/social experience. Not consistent.

Other comments

  • My daughter thought that Ms. Michaela and Mr. Payne were both very nurturing and encouraging. while still providing helpful corrections and instruction to improve her technique.
  • If your child has any kind of Emergency, you (the Parent) have to set up and coordinate transportation to/from the Doctors office or even ER! Very stressful/frustrating to deal with especially in an emergency situation and being hundreds of miles away.
  • Communication wasn’t great. I wasn’t able to make it to the parent observation as I didn’t know when that was when I had to book flights. Move out was a bit confusing to plan as well.
