General Comments

Overall recommendation

Definitely Not

Absolutely

Best aspect

  • Northwest’s repertory and rehearsals - a lot of individual attention and corrections that helped the dancers progress.
  • There was one teacher there who was really amazing and the rest was meh.

Least liked about program

  • Nothing - there really wasn’t anything that we really didn’t like.
  • The staff and planning.

Suggested changes to program

  • It would be nice to have more diversity in the styles of dance they offer.
  • Better communication and planning. There was no schedule and even during the intensive it would change and be replaced sometimes multiple times a day. Also, the head teacher (Jehrin) and some of the other staff were not very supportive and not helpful. Air conditioning was not provided and two girls got heat stroke, one of them had to miss a day. because of it. The teachers said that happened every year but they never told anyone until during the intensive.

Culture of program

  • The faculty was very attentive, supportive and friendly. All of the other dancers were very nice but there wasn’t a strong sense of community and connection cultivated among them.
  • Closed minded and monotonous.

Other comments

  • Well, the intensive was mostly to teach a new technique called "beamish body mind balancing," something which I was not aware of at the beginning. A lot of the ballet classes were taken up with lectures about the technique and we didn't do a lot of real dancing. Also, the staff seemed kind of sketchy when it came to money or their lives outside the intensive. Apparently this intensive was better previous years but the director died and now a new director is there who isn't very good and is teaching the technique differently. A lot of the girls who had come previous years said they weren't coming back next year because it was so bad this year.
