General Comments

Overall recommendation:

Definitely NotAbsolutely

Best aspect:

The best training in the region. There is consistent emphasis on the fundamentals of technique at every level. The faculty is composed of professionals who are committed to developing every dancer to the fullest of her individual potential, and the small class sizes provide the opportunity for attention to each student.

Least liked about program:

The dearth of male dancers. There is the opportunity for excellent instruction from a former principal male dancer, but boys tend to go to larger programs.

Suggested changes to program:

I wish that more male dancers would attend.

Culture of program:

The intensive is reflective of the pre-professional training in the year-round program. Many of the year-round students are in attendance during the summer intensive, and they go to other programs later in the summer. The intensive is serious but also fun for the younger students, who enjoy music and crafts in addition to their dance classes. The level of performance at the end-of-program show is very high, and includes younger as well as more experienced dancers.

Other comments:

Every year the program hosts incredible guest teachers, including former principal dancers from major companies. A well-known YAGP judge is in residence for one week each summer, teaching class as well as offering private instruction. The studio is one of the smaller ones in the region, but it has consistently produced competition winners as well as professional dancers with company positions.
