General Comments

Overall recommendation:

Best aspect:

I loved how it is a specific contemporary ballet and contemporary intensive with daily ballet.

Least liked about program:

When I checked in on the first day I was told what studio to go to assuming it was based off age. Once I got into the room I was 4 years older than everyone else. The program is mainly hosted by a local studio with most if not all of their students attending. I watched the directors come into class and pull some of the younger kids into the higher level. But I was left with kids a lot younger than me. With most the teachers coming from the hosting studio and guest teachers that clearly visited a lot, many of the students were known. Teachers calling them out by name to do things and only correcting them and so on. Teachers, being known also didn’t introduce themselves. There was a few times the posted schedule was different then who thought and I would have loved to know who’s class I was taking. To add to that, with the students and teachers knowing each other there was much need for maturity improvement and respect in class. Even for the guests. Having the director of ADC IBC be forced to do the 6-7 “trend” and not moving on with class till he did was embarrassing for me even not being a part of that. And the way some of the students talked to the teachers. For the ending showcase and scholarship show there was a noticeable difference in choreography between the levels but one common theme of showing off the dancers they knew best and thought looked best from their own studio. I was in the corner with about 20 seconds of dancing. Then to end it, they gave out so many scholarships. Many many different competitions and conventions, ones to come back next year, dance wear ones, photo shoots, so many. It was a lot of the same people who kept getting them. Including one girl in my level who got yelled at in every ballet class for goofing off and never knowing the combos who got a ballet stand out award. But then myself and 3 others got nothing when multiple people walked out with 4ish papers.

Suggested changes to program:

Leveling based off either skill or age, not picking and choosing based off the person. Teachers to introduce themselves. More respect from the students. For everyone to get a scholarship at the end or for less people to. Even if they don’t have more scholarships to give out, It would not have hurt to print 2 extra technique award papers.

Culture of program:

The teachers were amazing with the detail they showed the combos with being so open to any and all questions. AMAZING line up of teachers from all over with different backgrounds and competition association. But the maturity level was way below what I feel it should be. There needed to be a class etiquette lesson or for the teachers to tell them to knock it off.

Other comments:

I think this program has so much potential if it works through a few things. I loved every combo that I learned and did mostly enjoy my time there. I just think there needs to be more information gathered and shared on top of their website if someone is considering going or if I go again.
