Housing comment

  • "It was between two dorms and was severely understaffed and disorganized. Parents were allowed to stay on campus which was concerning and sort of awkward to navigate, many students seemed far too young to be allowed to stay in the dorms and made the housing complicated, and many of the few RAs were the same age as students (also strange…)."

Favorite

  • "Cirque du Soleil + watching their rehearsal"
  • "Students were only taken to see Cirque du Soleil which was a phenomenal show."

Least favorite

  • "none"
  • "It was unfortunate that the only outing provided completely usurped the only day off the students were allowed over the two weeks and therefore were not given ample time to rest."

General Comments

Overall recommendation

Absolutely

Best aspect

  • "Every other day you were able to rehearse your variation privately with one of the teachers."
  • "The teachers really know what they’re talking about and offered great training, especially in the one-on-one sessions and rehearsals. Lots of good wisdom was shared."

Least liked about program

  • "One of the rooms didn't have marley so it was really slippery."
  • "It was entirely understaffed and, as this was the first year, many bugs and confusions had to be worked out as the intensive progressed which was difficult for the students to navigate."

Suggested changes to program

  • "I wouldn't change anything."
  • "The RAs need to be more well trained, the students need more time off, and there needs to be a LOT less walking. The spaced-out nature of the university campus did not lend itself to a simple transportation system but if all residents stayed in the same dorm and all dancers only used a singular dance facility, it would be much easier on everyone involved in the program."

Culture of program

  • "Very nice and supportive."
  • "For students, the program was intense but productive. It seemed stressful for the staff, and for EVERYONE, it was incredibly hot and exhaustive."

Other comments

  • "None"
  • "I would not recommend it if your student is younger than 12 and needs to stay in the dorms. If you can stay near campus and transport your student, regardless of age, that would be a preferable situation. It had some small opportunity to work hands-on with renowned coaches and judges, but unless you pay extra for private coaching sessions, students essentially received a slightly inconvenient short-term intensive in 100+ degree heat."
